“That thing we call intuition? It’s your soul. You can trust it.” — Ralph Waldo Emerson
I create because I love the process. It is a meditative and joyful experience. I rarely have an outcome in mind. I allow myself to play and wait to see what will emerge. I would call myself an intuitive artist. I listen to internal whispers and then allow the work to flow through me.
Color inspires me. When I begin a piece, I put on music and then choose the colors I want to work with: cerulean blue, cadmium red, teal, ultramarine violet... rich colors that stimulate and heighten my senses. Then I add pattern, texture, and line in order to create energetic movement.
As a mixed media artist, I love collage because I can manipulate the materials. I enjoy the sensation of touching and moving things around. It allows me to join with the piece in a most intimate manner.
I was a psychotherapist for over thirty years. Words came easily and were a natural way for me to communicate thoughts and feelings. As an artist, I have found a more visceral way of expressing myself.
